Prevent injury at work.

Step-by-step approach to proper lifting  and carring:

pre-lift planning:
* before  attempting to lift a heavy load ( defined as  more than  25 lbs), get the assistance from  another  person or use a mechanical lifting  device whenever possible
* mentally plan out the lift before  actually performing it.

Immediate pre-lift preparation:
*stand close to the object
*use a wide stance for balance and support
*avoid ecessive  trunk bending by bending  the knees
* Grasp the object firmly
* maintain normal lumber lordosis by slight sticking out the chest

Lifting

* use  the stron lower limb  muscles for the lifting
*lift sufficiently slowly and deliberately so that it is possible  to lift  with good body medhanics
*keep  the load  close to the body during the lift
Carring /moving  objects.
* for loads with a shoulder strap, put the shoulder strap on the shoulder opposite from  the arm that is  primarily being  used  to carry  the load in order to even out the load
* Use symmetrical upper  body motions in order to  carry more  objects
* When  available, use a wheelcart with sufficiently large and  well maintained wheels so as to allow  smooth movement  and  to easy clear obstacles and irregularities in the workplace floor.
* Whenever possible, use a wheeled cart with sufficiently large  and well maintained wheels so as to allow smooth movement  and to easily clear obstacles  an irregularities in the workplace floor.
* Whenever possible, push instead of pull, and  do so by firmly grasping  the load, keeping a wide  stance by putting 1 foot in front of the other, staying down low, and shifting weight in the legs as needed.

Unloading

* Avoid trunk twisting by using  the feet in order to pivot, if necessary, into position.
* use  a wide  stance for balance and support
*avoid excessive trunk bending by bending  the knees
* maintain normal lumber lordosis by slightly sticking  out the chest
* Use the strong  lower limb  muscles for the unloading
*Keep  the load  sufficiently slowly and deliberately so that it is  possible  to lower the load with good  body mechanics.
* return  tp a n upright  standing  position, slowly while maintaining normal lumber  lordosis and do so without  twisting.
