Knee Pain

The  most common cause  of  knee pain  is not  ligament injury or  osteoarthoritis. The most  common cause of  chronic  knee pain is weakness in the  pes  anserinus  tendons.
Below  the knee cap,  on the  inside of the knee, are the attachments of  three tendons:
semimembranouse, semitendinsus, and  gracillis.  Together, these three   tendons  crease the  pes  Anserinus   area. The  Pes Anserinus  tendon, also know as the inside hamstring  muscles, flex the  knee  and stabilize the inside of the knee . Most of  use  have very, very, very weak  hamstring muscles that  are very short  because  we sit for  a large portion  of our day.  Many patients,  especially those  with  fallen arches  ar  prone to  strains these muscles. The tibia tends  to rotate outward to compensate for  the fallen  arch. This  outward rotation  of the tibia places additional  stress on the  pes  anerinus  tendons.  Eventually, these  tendons become lax and are no longer able to  control  the tibia  movement, adding to teh chronic  knee pain.  An ache support may be  prescribed to  reestablish the arch.  Prolotherapy  injections along  the arch of foot  will also  prove  beneficial. Prolotherapy  injections into the pes anserinus  attchments to the bone  strengthen the tendon  attachments,   in  long run, reduce  knee pain.
As we aging , particular with   history of  ligement  injuries in  life, the  bone  starts deenerative change as  result of  under  long term  stresses from laxed  ligament .Some of  us also develop degenerative arthroritis. The  osteoarthritis is  the end result of   ligment damages.

Proloferant injection therapy is based on the principle hypotheses that

1: interstitial rupture of collagen fibers within the  substance of ligaments producs  elongation and thus  dysfunction;
2. Repeated provocation of an inflammatory reaction within the ligament will induce  fibroblastic hyperplasia and laying down of new collagen, hence
3. ligament healing,may be achieved in the presence of  normal active movement.

Osteoarthritis of the knee

Fortunately, an innovative, drug-free therapy called Synvisc may be able to help alleviate the pain associated with ostcoarthritis of the knee and allow people to take advantage of the warm weather.

"What's impressive about Synvisc is that it works without drugs to help people with osteoarthritis of the knee resume their day-to-day activities." says Linda Li, MD, Pain Management & Rehabilitation Center. it is an important osteoarthritis therapy that can help relieve pain and improve functioning in people. some of whom might otherwise require immediate total knee replacement surgery. Studies have confirmed that Synvise can go a long way toward improving the symptoms of osteoarthritis sufferers."

Synvise is used to relieve osteoarthritic knee pain in people who do not get adequate pain relief from simple painkillers (such as acetaminophen), exercise, or physical therapy. It isa form of a new medical technology called viscosupplementation—thc first new treatment type for osteoarthritis in over 25 years. The goal of viscosupplementation is to replace and restore the natural properties of healthy synovial joint fluid, the substanec that fills the space between the cartilage-covered bones of the joint, providing crucial shock absorption and lubrication. In people ~vith ostcoarthritis of the knee, synovial fluid thins and loses its elasticity and this can cause knee pain and loss of flexibility.

Clinical studies have shown that just three injections of Synvisc over  15 days can help relieve pain for months. Synvise is generally well tolerated; however, it may not work for everyone. The most commonly reported side effects are temporary pain, swelling, and/or fluid accumulation in the injected knee (about 2% of injections). If fluid accumulation is large or paintbl, patients should call their doctor. Other side effects, such as rash, have been reported rarely. Patients should advise their doctor if they are allergic to chicken products or if their leg is swollen or infected. The results of repeat use have not been established.
patients with OA of the knee treated with a continuouse low -level heat wrap for  8 hours reported significant  benefits in  pain reduction  and improved flexibility .

OA knee pain can affect people of all ages. If you have knee pain, be sure to consult Dr. Li  to discuss what therapies might be right for you. Whether you love strolling in a meadow, planting flowers, or hiking through the woods, don't let osteoarthritis slow you down  this spring.
